Abstract
This article examines the perils of the contagious disease pertussis, prevalent among
infants around the country. Signs and symptoms of the disease are discussed, along
with the current and future means of its diagnosis. Pertussis immunization, legal
aspects, side effects, and schedule are discussed. Current medical treatment and nursing
management are also presented. Finally, a care plan for the infant with pertussis
utilizing nursing diagnosis is introduced.
